You should flag it out of date and put a comment in the AUR thread

What exactly is not working? Does the build fail? Does it crash when you run it? Does it only play Kylie Minogue videos? Does it ....
Details please.

On their web site, here is the explication:
Our old server mphq died on Friday afternoon. Probably it won't come back online.
While many services were already moved to the new server natsuki, CVS repositories and mailing lists were still hosted on the old machine.
Here is the new snapshot page:

OK - I see what you're talking about now.
Their CVS server crashed, so they're taking the opportunity to proceed with an existing SVN migration plan. Until then, they've put up links to the last CVS snapshots that were made before the crash.
Leave it with me for a while. I'll put together an interim mplayer-snapshot PKGBUILD, using the provided tarballs, and when they get Subversion going, I'll do an all-new mplayer-svn PKGBUILD.
I'll post here when it's done, or you can just watch for it coming into the AUR.

Just wondering.. I know there are some bugs in mplayer (especially gmplayer) so are the snapshots/svn versions much better?

The principal benefit of the CVS/snapshot builds is GTK2 support - check out the original request/discussion thread here. I can't say if it's better or worse than the official release, because I've only ever used the CVS build.
mplayer-snapshot is now in the AUR here, and I'm now going to use it to catch up on BSG.

just wondering why are: esd libpng libjpeg libungif in the dependancies? arent they optional? i personally use alsa over esd and im not gonna watch movies of png, jpeg or gif lol

You think that is possible to use that PKGBUILD or is it necessary to have the other libraries?
(btw why are there two contributors? )

The intention with this PKGBUILD is to provide a drop-in replacement for the stock mplayer package, with the improvements provided by the newer code. It's therefore necessary to keep the build-time options the same.
Obviously, users can build it any way they like on their own systems.

Did you read the thread linked above?
Offline
It's polite to include any previous contributor in PKGBUILD _especially_ if you just take a -cvs PKGBUILD and make a new -svn one for it, or some similar minor change. It severely pisses me off when people don't do that.
Offline
Ohh I see he's using someone else pkgbuild to make the svn one.
Sorry for misunderstanding! :-

In this case (as you would see if you read the other thread), various people worked on it originally - lucke posted a PKGBUILD, to which I made some changes before uploading it to the AUR.
'Contributor' in this context means anyone who helped create the PKGBUILD - more often than not, there's just one, but there can be more.
As an example, you could, if you felt like it, credit me as a Contributor to exaile-svn.

mplayer-svn is now in the AUR. Consequently, mplayer-cvs and mplayer-snapshot have now been deleted.

damn can´t build it.
Get this message:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot open output file mplayer: Is a directory
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [mplayer] Error 1
Any idea?
EDIT: ok it works. There was an error from copy & paste

Glad you got it working, but can you tell me what you were copy-&-pasting? You should download the tarball provided when you're building AUR packages.
Offline
the new mplayer repo is svn
http://svn.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/
svn checkout svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/trunk mplayer
PS: so "svn mplayer" is correct ;-)
I removed my sig, cause i select the flag, the flag often the target of enemy.

I took the PKGBUILD from AUR.
But I´m always using some extra options like xvmc, lirc etc.
And those I copy&paste from my old PKGBUILD.
