[Solved] Firefox & Chromium can't open some download links

Hi, I've found that nor Firefox nor Chromium can open download links on a specific site. I'm puzzled. I've refreshed my Firefox (so there's no ad blocker or such now), but this seems to be something independent from the browser.

I'm getting redirected to the main when I click a download link. wget doesn't work either, because these are password-protected files (a password must be submitted before seeing those files).

Info:

$ pacman -Q | grep firefox && pacman -Q | grep chromium
firefox 52.0.2-1
chromium 57.0.2987.133-1

I run them in firejail, but this seems to be irrelevant. I've tried the download using Chromium outside firejail, I got the same.

It looks like this: I copy the download link and paste it in the URL bar (or click it), I see http://sitename.countrycode/stuff/here/filename.pdf. I get redirected to sitename.countrycode.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this my fault or should their server be configured differently? Thank you in advance. smile

Sounds like the issue is a server side one; but impossible to say without you sharing an actual link/page for others to test.

Re: [Solved] Firefox & Chromium can't open some download links

Hi jasonwryan, I've checked it out in my Lubuntu VM and it worked there, but FF told me that the owner of the configured it improperly. I had to make a security exception for that.

Then I tried deleting my default profile in Firefox in Arch, then it works again but I didn't have ot make a security exception this time. This is quite weird.

Actually, I didn't wish to share the site and the password for obvious reasons (maybe the site only). Without that you couldn't check anything... Now it's solved with a new profile. Thanks anyways. It's quite funny Chromium doesn't work on it. smile
