Hi all,
I have noticed that since the last month or two when I press Alt+Ctrl+F2 to switch to another VT while I am in X, the video mode doesn't change. The screen simply displays the X session (minus the cursor) as if the VT has changed but the video card hasn't updated the mode.
I can log in blind on the other VT and then start an X session where the screen will then update, and switching back and forth between VTs (now both are running X) works fine. But switching to a VT that doesn't have X on it yet just causes the screen to freeze, showing whatever was on it at the moment the key combo was pressed.
I'm using the normal Intel drivers, not using xf86-video-intel, just KMS etc.
Does anyone else see this behaviour, whether using Intel hardware or not? I'm trying to work out whether it's a bug in Intel's video drivers or whether it's a kernel bug that affects all cards using KMS.

Kernel version? Video card?
Native modesetting works fine for me...

So if you're in X on VT 1 and you press Alt+Ctrl+F2 to jump to VT 2, you are presented with the old-style text user/password login? Do you have xf86-video-intel installed or are you using the kernel's driver?
I'm running 4.10.8-1-ARCH but like I say it's been happening for a few months now. Onboard Intel HD 4600 - I think they are all much the same from the mode setting point of view though.

Native modesetting, and yes switching VTs works as expected. This is on 4.10.10, but it also worked on -8 and -9
