When i did a pacman -Syu, pacman complained " Anonymous login failed while syncing the extra database, but it then went on updating it correctly. Then while fetching the new extra packages, it gave the same message, but again worked as it always does.
These messages did not cause any problems, but I hate messages flashing on my screen saying something is wrong and me not knowng what went wrong. Please clarify..

i'm getting the same error trying to install nvu from the community repository. mine doesn't resolve and install the package, though, it just hangs with the error message. is there some central database problem (if there's even a central database )?
>>edit: getting same trying -Syu.
[4] root:/home/sero # pacman -Syu

error: anonymous login failed

I'm getting the same thing. It seems that the mirror I usually use (ftp.nethat.com) don't allow anonymous login anymore. You need to have an account. I don't know if it's just temporary or why it was changed. Are you using that mirror or another one?
The reason that pacman still proceeded with the update/installation is because it used the second mirror on the list.

The same thing happened with the heanet mirror a few weeks ago. In that case, it was a problem on their end, which was sorted after I mailed them about it.
While they were working on it, I changed pacman to access it via http instead - I don't know if nethat would be able to accommodate you the same way.

yep, it was the nethat mirror for me. i'm going through trying some of the other ones, but the only one responding so far is ibiblio, using ftp. a little slower than nethat, but not too bad. strange that it didn't go through the mirror list, but i guess it was just hanging on the next one (some georgia tech mirror, which also doesn't seem to be working) b4 getting to ibiblio.

baldy1324: you are using the mirror at the top of the repos mirror lists in /etc/pacman.d/
To use another one, move it at the top of the list.

it was the nethat mirror, i masked it and used the next mirror, no errors
