Re: system update broke mplayer [SOLVED]

$ pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libbluray.so.2
/usr/lib/libbluray.so.2 is owned by libbluray 1.0.0-1

Can you check if pacman detects corruption of the packages

$ pacman -Qkk libbluray libass

Do you have anything marked for NoExtract in pacman.conf?
Edit:
Can you also please post the pacman.log entry for the last update(s) that included mplayer ffmepg libbluray libass

Re: system update broke mplayer [SOLVED]

Here we go:

$ pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libbluray.so.2

Output:

/usr/lib/libbluray.so.2 is owned by libbluray 1.0.0-1

Package corruption:

$ pacman -Qkk libbluray libass

Output:

libbluray: 23 total files, 0 altered files
libass: 15 total files, 0 altered files

What is the output of

Re: system update broke mplayer [SOLVED]

Seems like you're right:

$ which mplayer
/usr/local/bin/mplayer

I must admit I got no idea why it is so, I could have done something in the past and totally forgot about it.
Could you elaborate a bit on why this is bad? Is it because when I'm launching mplayer from the terminal, the outdated mplayer that lives in /usr/local/bin is launched and its dependencies aren't satisfied anymore because of the update?

And

$ pacman -Qkk mplayer
mplayer: 43 total files, 0 altered files

These statements are correct. Pacman should have updated a different version of mplayer that is /usr/bin/ but your local version is superseding it, and wasn't compiled with the newest libs.

And is there a way I can tell pacman to remove my local version or do I just

rm -r /usr/local/bin/mplayer

?

Re: system update broke mplayer [SOLVED]

You can check the modified time of the /usr/local binary to see when it was made. That might help you remember why it's there. You can check whether a package owns the file with

$ pacman -Qo /usr/local/bin/mplayer

(it will be a poorly written AUR package if it does)

If nothing owns it, then you probably compiled from source and ran 'make install' as root at some point, and you will need to remove the /usr/local files manually.

The reason why it has suddenly broke is because the sonames of libbluray (and libass) were bumped due to ABI changes, and mplayer needed to be rebuilt against the new libraries (this has already happened for /usr/bin/mplayer as an updated package has been built by the package maintainer).

The files in /usr/local haven't been installed by pacman, so you'll need to remove them manually.
However, check also for other files in /usr/local. It's quite likely that mplayer has installed man pages, libraries and other stuff in there.

find /usr/local -name 'mplayer*'
