[SOLVED] Three- and four-finger touchpad gestures randomly not working

Hello there. I'm quite new to Arch, so please excuse this stupid-sounding question. The problem is, sometimes when I boot into Arch, three- and four-finger touchpad gestures just don't work. On other times, they work all right. There's no updates in between and I don't think I'm doing anything differently. My computer is ASUS Zenbook UX360C and I'm running Gnome Shell (the problem occurs on both Wayland and Xorg).

Re: [SOLVED] Three- and four-finger touchpad gestures randomly not working

GNOME on Xorg doesn't action any 3 or 4 finger swipes. So how are you determining there is a problem?

GNOME on Wayland only actions 4 finger swipe (to change workspaces).

Re: [SOLVED] Three- and four-finger touchpad gestures randomly not working

4-finger swipe for changing workspaces should work by default. I have also installed GnomeExtendedGestures, which enables me to configure 3-finger gestures. Sorry, should have mentioned that.

Thank you for the explanation that the gestures don't work on Xorg. I wasn't aware of that. It actually brought me to the solution: Wayland sometimes crashed and Xorg was being started instead. In this case, I got the following lines in journalctl -xb:

Apr 23 15:01:38 msum-laptop gnome-shell[340]: Can't initialize KMS backend: could not find drm kms device
Apr 23 15:01:38 msum-laptop gnome-session[328]: gnome-session-binary[328]: WARNING: App 'org.gnome.Shell.desktop' exited with code 1
Apr 23 15:01:38 msum-laptop gnome-session-binary[328]: WARNING: App 'org.gnome.Shell.desktop' exited with code 1
Apr 23 15:01:38 msum-laptop gnome-session-binary[328]: Unrecoverable failure in required component org.gnome.Shell.desktop
Apr 23 15:01:38 msum-laptop gdm[290]: GdmDisplay: display lasted 1.730489 seconds
Apr 23 15:01:38 msum-laptop systemd-logind[279]: Removed session c1.

I followed the advice on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … _KMS_start. Rebooted about 10 times, the issue didn't occur, so I'm marking the thread as solved.
