Cannot start polkit? (Lost the name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1)

I'm having problems with XFCE and I suspect it might be something to do with polkit, so I installed a new Arch Linux system to try it. Step 1: install polkit:

$ sudo pacman -S polkit

Looks good. Step 2: check status and start:

$ systemctl status polkit
● polkit.service - Authorization Manager
   Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/polkit.service; static; vendor preset: disable
   Active: inactive (dead)
     Docs: man:polkit(8)
$ sudo systemctl start polkit
$ systemctl status polkit
● polkit.service - Authorization Manager
   Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/polkit.service; static; vendor preset: disable
   Active: inactive (dead)
     Docs: man:polkit(8)

Apr 23 08:03:56 xxx polkitd[596]: Started polkitd version 0.114

Apr 23 08:03:56 xxx polkitd[596]: Lost the name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1 - exiting
Apr 23 08:03:56 xxx systemd[1]: Started Authorization Manager.

Polkit fails with "lost the name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1". Step 3: Make sure there is a polkitd user and dbus is running:

$ id polkitd
uid=102(polkitd) gid=102(polkitd) groups=102(polkitd),26(proc)
$ ps auxww | grep dbus
dbus       244  0.0  0.4  39988  4516 ?        Ss   08:00   0:00 /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --system --address=systemd: --nofork --nopidfile --systemd-activation

What could be causing polkit to not run properly on a newly installed system, nothing custom?

Re: Cannot start polkit? (Lost the name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1)

sudo pacman -S polkit

might be the issue.  It may have done a partial update.

May I suggest you do a pacman -Syu
