Error in Pacman

Hello,
I recently intalled Arch Linux and as you can see i was trying to install the ethernet drivers to get all working to install the Eee PC kernel via pacman, but when i try to install the kernel i got some problems:

# pacman -Sy kernel-eee
:: Synchronzing package databases...
error: failed to update core (no servers configured for repository)
error: failed to update extra (no servers configured for repository)
error: failed to update community (no servers configured for repository)
error: failed retrieving file 'eee.db.tar.gz' from code.toofishes.net : Transient resolver failure
error: failed to update eee (Transient resolver failure)
error: failed to synchronize any databases

The only thing that i've changed in pacman.conf is this lines at the end of the file:

[eee]
Server = http://code.toofishes.net/packages/eee

Thanks,
Nathan Paulino Campos

Re: Error in Pacman

Uncomment one of the mirrors from the file and do a pacman -Syu

Re: Error in Pacman

There's your problem! You have every possible mirror commented out! Uncomment the mirrors closest to you, and if you want to optimize it a bit move mirrorlist to mirrorlist.bak and run

rankmirrors mirrorlist.bak > mirrorlist

Re: Error in Pacman

Nathan, are you sure the kernel-eee-2.6.30.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz package is built for arch? If so, just download it manually and run

# pacman -U /path/to/kernel-eee-2.6.30.5-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

Hope that helps.

Also, to use pacman with -S, you should uncomment some mirror(s) in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist, choose the best synced, see http://users.archlinux.de/~gerbra/mirrorcheck.html for mirror status

#XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget --passive-ftp -c -O %o %u

I think you should uncomment this to use wget as download handler for pacman.

Re: Error in Pacman

nathanpc had this problem during installation. And if he is right that it was just a matter of installing without internet connection (unplugged cable in his case), it should be a bug for not leaving the global mirror always uncommented.

On the other hand, I am running arch for a couple years on this machine, have never updated the mirror list manually, but when i upgrade the system via pacman and get a notice that some configuration file have changed i do one of two things:
A. if I had ever changed the config file, i will run a diff and merge
B. if i had never touched it, i will just move the new maintainer file over the old one.

And of course, last week when i upgraded, mirrorlist changed. I thought "i never touched it. and new mirrors should be nice" so I copied the file over. And apparently the default file have all mirrors commented.

The fix was to uncomment them all: vim/sed/awk/etc... 's/^#S/S/' and then run Ghost1227 suggested  `rankmirror` command

But it would be nice if the default file had the global or US one uncommented. So everyone would, in worst case, have a slow update, instead of no update?
