[SOLVED] Jumbled terminal from bootable installation media

I am attempting to install Arch on a new computer with Windows preinstalled (probably does not matter, but worth the mention). I am able to make the installation media start but the terminal is completely jumbled.  See the pictures:

Some chopped up green 'OK's that resemble systemd working... wink

The red zsh prompt for installation.

I can tell it's 'working' since I can type in commands and it looks like it is running them correctly (I'm mostly doing simple stuff like ls).
I tried running setfont, the jumble would change but remain a jumble.
I tried different methods of making the bootable USB but I always get the same result.

Any ideas on what I should try?

Read the Code of Conduct and only post thumbnails http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cod … s_and_code

What graphics card? Have you tried disabling modesetting?

Re: [SOLVED] Jumbled terminal from bootable installation media

Sorry about the thumbnail hiccup. I knew I was missing something.

I have an Nvidia GTX 970.

I'm currently trying to set nomodeset as a kernel parameter. Doing so is a challenge since I can't see anything. Is there any other method to attempt this?

Thank you very much for your help.

Re: [SOLVED] Jumbled terminal from bootable installation media

UPDATE: disabling modesetting worked. I just found out you can set flags from systemd boot by pressing 'e'!

More on that here:

Kernel Mode Setting
Kernel Parameters

Side note: Should I reenable this at some point? What are the risks of leaving modesetting off?

None. Just make sure you have a working TTY.
