Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

Do you have this in pacman.conf?

[xfce-svn]
Server = http://arch.os-zen.net/pkg/xfce-svn

Shadowhand put all xfce-svn stuff into this repo some time ago...

That fixed it, thanks. I had this:

[shadowhand]
Server = http://arch.os-zen.net/pkg/shadowhand

What I don't understand is why the one I had didn't work, since it has later files as well.

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

Some dependency problems in the xfce-svn repo... Thunar should depend on fam and the media tags plugin should depend on taglib. Also, mousepad doesn't seem to be there.

Yup, I posted about this a couple weeks ago in here.

Mousepad in svn really isn't any different than the last released version. Erik doesn't have any time to work on it.

Thunar will fail to start if fam is not installed.

And where is the last released version available? :?

Also, I ought to mention I get this error with xarchiver-svn:

(xarchiver:3476): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading icon from file 'xarchiver.png':
Failed to open file 'xarchiver.png': No such file or directory

And a lot of the icons in it fail to appear.

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

I just can't Thunar to work after the newest update (22089-1).

When I try to start it I get this:

# /opt/xfce4/bin/Thunar
/opt/xfce4/bin/Thunar: error while loading shared libraries: libthunar-vfs-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

But libthunar-vfs-1.so.2 is there:

# locate libthunar-vfs-1.so.2
[...]
/opt/xfce4/lib/libthunar-vfs-1.so.2.1.0
/opt/xfce4/lib/libthunar-vfs-1.so.2

That's almost the exact same error that I had, except mine was related to a xfce4-sessions library and I could never actually load X. I had tried removing the file by hand and then reinstalling the problem package (in your case
thunar-svn
), which didn't work. I tried clearing my package cache and reinstalling the package, which didn't work. I tried a couple other things as well, non of which worked.

I finally fixed it last night by removing the entire
xfce4-svn
group and then reinstalling it again. So, you might want to give that a shot...not sure exactly where the cause of the problem was though, since all of the svn packages had been updated a couple of times before I finally got it working again.

Thanks it worked. And now I have removed all the stuff from Xfce4 that I didn't like to just using Thunar.

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

I would like to install Thunar to try it out so I followed the instructions of adding the Shadowhand repo to my /etc/pacman.conf file and did pacman -Sy but when I list the contents there is no Thunar, or anything relating to xfce.

Where can I install Thunar from and are there any step by step guides for doing so? I am a Arch novice so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

add

[xfce-svn]
Server = http://arch.os-zen.net/pkg/xfce-svn

to the pacman.conf.
the xfce-svn stuff isn't in the shadowhand repo anymore, he split them up.

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

Thanks for that info baze.

When I tried installing it I got these messages

libxfce4util-svn conflicts with libxfce4util. Remove libxfce4util? [Y/n]
libxfcegui4-svn conflicts with libxfcegui4. Remove libxfcegui4? [Y/n]
libxfce4mcs-svn conflicts with libxfce4mcs. Remove libxfce4mcs? [Y/n]

I said Yes to all of them as I thought Thunar wouldn't work with the existing ones.

Once all the packages were downloaded I then got the following:

checking package integrity... done.
error: this will break the following dependencies:
  libxfcegui4: is required by xfcalendar
  libxfcegui4: is required by xfce-mcs-manager
  libxfcegui4: is required by xfce-utils
  libxfcegui4: is required by xfce4-appfinder
  libxfcegui4: is required by xfce4-iconbox
  libxfcegui4: is required by xfce4-panel
  libxfcegui4: is required by xfce4-session

  libxfce4mcs: is required by xfdesktop
  libxfce4mcs: is required by xffm
  libxfce4mcs: is required by xfprint
  libxfce4mcs: is required by xfwm4

Am I right in saying that Thunar won't work with the existing versions of the files but I can't replace them as my version of xfce4 requires them? This seems like a catch 22 situation.

Do I need to uninstall the version of xfce4 I have, which is the one from Packages, and then install the -svn version from Shadowhand's repo? If so, which file from the repo do I want to install to give me the equivalent of the version I already have installed?

If this has already been discussed in this thread can you give me the page number to read.

Thanks

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

i'd suggest to completely remove the xfce4 group you have installed and install the group xfce4-svn from shadowhands repo.

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

Thanks again baze.

I removed the existing xfce4 group and then installed all the apps in shadowhand's xfce4-svn repo and I now have it up and running.

Another question, I installed each application separately but is there a pacman command that would have installed all the contents of xfce-svn in one go, one after the other?

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

Hi,
I've got some problems with ThunarBulkRename, it doesn't launches when I type

/opt/xfce4/libexec/ThunarBulkRename

And it prints this :

(Thunar:18274): Gtk-WARNING **: sendto-menu: missing action

(Thunar:18274): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_container_foreach: assertion `GTK_IS_CONTAINER (container)' failed

(Thunar:18274): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_menu_shell_insert: assertion `GTK_IS_MENU_SHELL (menu_shell)' failed

I think the problem should come from gtk  but I can't solve it.
I installed thunar-svn, gtk-engines-cvs from shadowhand's repo, it is up-to-date.
Any idea?
thanks

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

thunar-svn in shadowhands repo is not up to date. it has version 22089, the current svn is 22133.
i had the same problem so i used the PKGBUILD from shadowhand and built the latest svn version. bulkrename works with that one.

the bug is http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1921

the version that fixed that bug is 22105, so the fix is not yet in shadowhands repository.

With the move of testing to current going on right now. Has anyone had any packages from xfce-svn that need to be rebuilt?

I plan to take the dive soon but I am not sure if I should wait on updated xfce-svn packages.

gaim-svn keeps crashing whenever an IM window opens. Any clue as to why that's happening?

Edit: I was using a beta of gaim-encryption that needed to be recompiled... sorry.

Does anyone else have a problem with gaim-svn and sound? For some reason it doesn't want to use anything other than a console beep, which is completely annyoing.

Re: Shadowhand's Devel Repo (Firefox, Gaim, Xfce, etc)

Shadowhand said something about gaim switching to gstreamer and him not having gstreamer installed so it installed nothing or something weird like that. I'd prefer to have gstreamer support in gaim.

You can get sounds back if you install sox, then use run command for the sound option, and use play %s. It should play sounds now.
