I just re-installed archlinux due to this problem thinking it would fix itself; however, it has not. So now I have a fresh installation of arch linux with Kernel 4.11.2 and nvidia driver 381.22
I can get to the GDM login screen, but if I pick gnome or plasma and login, it just returns me to the GDM login screen after a while. I've tried both gnome-wayland and gnome-xorg to no avail. Strangely, if I remove nvidia driver and use noveau, I am able to log in and use gnome-shell. I've tried using the linux-lts kernel with the nvidia binary driver, and still have the same problem. Any suggestions? I'm using a Geforce 750ti

No, that only works for Windows. Actual OS act deterministically ... :-P
Configure GDM to use Xorg and try to log into plasma or gnome on xorg. If that still fails, please provide your xorg log
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GD … rg_backend
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#General <- gdm now stores the xorg log in the journal
