I have a Sony HT-CT260H sound bar connected to the HDMI output of my Arch box and a TV connected to the HDMI output of the sound bar. There is video but no sound. Nor the sound bar nor the TV plays any sound. I tried Kodi and aplay. Alsamixer says Card: HDA Intel HDMI,, Chip: Intel Broadwell HDMI. The available channels are: S/PDIF, S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2, S/PDIF 3, S/PDIF 4 all of them with a 00 and nothing else, there's no scale. But, they are not shown as MM so I presume they are not muted. (I can switch to the PCH card which shows the usual 0-100 scales so it's not like Alsamixer is totally broken on the system or something).
00:03.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Audio Controller [8086:160c] (rev 09)
00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP High Definition Audio Controller [8086:9ca0] (rev 03)
I have no idea how to proceed. Please help.

Out of curiosity, are you using PulseAudio or Alsa? I ask because Alsa is a mess when you deal with this kind of stuff.

I am using alsa. I could try installing pulse. I use lightdm with kodi standalone so I haven't felt the need for pulse... but I installed it and made no difference.

Given that you use ALSA cycle through all your HDMI devices from
aplay -l
output with e.g. speaker-test and find out which of them is potentially giving you sound and configure it as default according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad … ive_method
If you want to keep using pulseaudio, do the same but check your available profiles with
pacmd list-cards
pacmd set-card-profile $CARDNAME $PROFILENAME #to switch between potential sinks

Could try installing Pavucontrol
sudo pacman -S pavucontrol

This isn't right. This isn't even wrong.

Ran speaker test for every output... nada.

No outputs/error messages for any of them? What does
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
aplay -lL
amixer -c$cardindex from aplay -l
dmesg | grep snd
give?
Also as a sanity check, double check the wires/input/output sources/volumes on the TV/soundbar and if possible take e.g. the soundbar out of the equation and try only with the TV

I have a page that includes some things on that, including a link to a more detailed thread on these forums.
http://srobb.net/dvds.html#HDMI
Sometimes, if using alsa, creating a $HOME/.asoundrc reading
pcm.!default = pcm.hdmi
(Which is the relevant gist of the link--other parts talk about pauvcontrol and using it with FreeBSD)
