[SOLVED] Bios won't recognize boot partition on fresh install

Hello there,

I have been trying to install Arch for the past couple of days with no luck. I go through the entire installation process (which at this point I have completely memorized and understand every step) and I do not see the boot partition on my bios boot menu.

My setup:
1 SSD with Windows 10 on (after checking on settings it boots in legacy bios)
1 HDD which I am trying to install Arch on.
Asus Prime B-350 Plus Mobo (it is UEFI right?)

I partition my HDD as follows:
1. EFI filesystem with 100M   >>> /boot/efi
2. Linux filesystem with 500M >>> /boot
3. Luks with LVM
3a. 10GB >>> /
3b. +100%free >>> /home

I went through the motherboard setting and turned off things like Fast Boot and Secure Boot to test if it made a different but it did not.

Any one could possibly tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I should try next?

Thank you.

Re: [SOLVED] Bios won't recognize boot partition on fresh install

Thanks for the link, very interesting read. I always used the word BIOS as the 'motherboard's software.' I.e. the software you choose your boot drive from. But I get it now.

What is confusing me is that I checked /sys/firmware/efi/efivars and it wasn't empty. According to the installation guide if it is empty I should boot in BIOS.

If windows is booting using bios I would recommend using bios for arch as well unless you intended to using the firmware's boot selection menu to select boot device on every boot.
Having said that which bootloader/bootmanager are you trying to use with arch?

Well I always just go into the motherboards firmware to choose boot device anyway.
I have been trying to use GRUB mainly.

Re: [SOLVED] Bios won't recognize boot partition on fresh install

So what commands did you use to install and configure grub?  What was the outputs of those commands.  What is now present on /boot and /boot/efi? see smart questions
Additionally what is the output of `efibootmgr`

Alright to I figure it out and got my Arch running.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

It boots in legacy now instead, it works.
