broke my laptop??? [SOLVED]

the Arch boot process is no longer displayed at full screen (1024x768) but in a small portion of the screen...
Also the laptop's own bootsplash window (Dell logo) is no longer full screen.... sad

Did I break my laptop? Or is there a simple solution to this?

GDM and Gnome are displayed in the normal resolution (full screen 1024x768)

I hope it can be fixed.... :?

Re: broke my laptop??? [SOLVED]

what did you do to prompt this to happen? what was the last thing you did? any settings you changed, particularly bios settings?

Re: broke my laptop??? [SOLVED]

I was installing gnome-power-manager and I turned off and on acpi in the BIOS, but I must have rebooted at least 10 times normally (with everything coming up in full res) before this happened...

Re: broke my laptop??? [SOLVED]

added "vga=773" to the kernel line in the grub config file, but that only changes everything after the 'Dell splash' and the grub boot menu...

Re: broke my laptop??? [SOLVED]

Okay solved it....

It's a dell latitude laptop, and it has this 'Fn' key with a number of blue keys (Suspend, volume up/down, mute etc.).
I was trying which of these key combinations worked, and pressed 'Fn' + F7 (font) this apparently changed something in the BIOS. But pressing it again and rebooting brought everything back to normal  big_smile
