Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

Hey all, I have a WIFI repeater that allows me to obtain access to my wireless signal in my office. The WIFI repeater has WPA2 encryption and a standard password just like any regular home router. I can connect to it from all of my devices (iphone, ubuntu, etc) except my Arch laptop for some reason. I have tried fiddling with the connecting encryption type, have reset the repeater, and reset the laptop's memory of the attempts at connection and it won't connect at all.

Any ideas?

Can provide more details as necessary.

Re: Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

Connect manually and paste the error messages where it fails.

Re: Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

Try turning off all programs such as Network Manager that are managing the interface.  Once that is done, try connecting manually and see what errors you get.  Post those errors here and someone can probably help you.

Edit: not quite fast enough smile

Re: Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

As circleface told you before: stop nm and dhcpcd before testing a manual connection.

Also the presence of both is conflilctive and probably the cause for your initial failures.
Pick *one* service to manage your network, it doesn't matter which, but two or more will get into a race.

Re: Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

sudo wpa_supplicant -i wlp3s0 -c <(wpa_passphrase ATT856-plus YOURPASSWORD!!!!)

first, redirection doesn't work with sudo (at least not this way) and second: YOU POSTED YOUR PASSWORD! Do edit your post asap.

Edit, ok, you noticed that ;-)
Try "sudo su" for a root shell or use a file based config

Re: Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

Make some effort yourself; this error is explicitly mentioned on the wiki page:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/WP … passphrase

Re: Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

[root@bmgxc9-arch]: /home/bmgxc9># wpa_supplicant -i wlp3s0 -c <(wpa_passphrase ATT856-plus somepassword)
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
wlp3s0: Trying to associate with SSID 'ATT856-plus'
wlp3s0: Associated with 40:a5:ef:21:12:1a
wlp3s0: CTRL-EVENT-SUBNET-STATUS-UPDATE status=0
wlp3s0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=40:a5:ef:21:12:1a reason=0 locally_generated=1
wlp3s0: WPA: 4-Way Handshake failed - pre-shared key may be incorrect
wlp3s0: CTRL-EVENT-SSID-TEMP-DISABLED id=0 ssid="ATT856-plus" auth_failures=1 duration=10 reason=WRONG_KEY

It's basically giving me the same problem as always, indicating I have input the wrong passkey when this is the same passkey I have put in all of my devices and can visually see as the correct pass key when I go to the repeater's local IP address.

This is the same error I get when I try to connect through NetworkManager, too.

Re: Can't Connect to WIFI Repeater

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 7#p1112237 ?
Also see the last tip in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/WP … passphrase (though I don't recall the formerly posted password to be "odd")
