When I select some text to copy, it is not highlighted. It is selected since when I copy it and paste into another application (e.g. text editor) it dos copy and paste. Chromium shows as highlighted fine. I looked at all Firefox settings and cannot find anything. I searched forum and wiki, but cannot find anything.

Sounds like a theme issue. Try changing your GTK theme.

I can't remember, is Firefox currently using GTK2 or GTK3? I think it's using GTK2... Only because, if it was using GTK3, I wouldn't gone nuts by now and installed a "GTK2 version" from the AUR... ![]()

The repo version GTK3 and GTK 3.20 incompatible themes are leading to the issue as described, lot's of threads about that during that timeframe

Arch switched to GTK3 as soon as Firefox had good support for it, even before it was the default. And the latest versions of Firefox have actually dropped the GTK2 code entirely, which means the GTK2 version from the AUR is not a thing anymore!
Apparently you are less resistant to GTK3 than you thought. ![]()
...
Speaking as a former firefox-gtk2 user, it isn't *too* bad with GTK3. The only place where GTK3 really sticks its nose in and destroys things, is with the file chooser dialog. And, well, there is always wget/curl for that.
I have opted to stick with Firefox as my browser for now...

So I assume you switched back, unless of course you just didn't notice which browser you were typing into when you started trash-talking Firefox GTK3? ![]()

That did it - thanks!
As found in GTK+ Themes, I tried
GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark firefox &and it looks good.
Marking as Solved.
