Hello,
I've been trying every wiki and thread I can find regarding mouse buttons and linux. So, far... Everything works like a charm, except... The thumb buttons on my mouse. I am trying to get this to work within a VMware guest. If this is something that isn't going to work within VMware no harm no foul. Just would like to find out if anyone else has got them to work, or if this is something that is known not to work. Thanks.

I don't know about thumb buttons and vmware... But is Xorg setup to use them?

As far as I can tell, yes. I have tried the wiki using evdev and ~/.xmodmap for the buttons. 7, I think, for MX500 attached to the host system. But when i try to test the buttons within the Arch Linux guest, XEV doesn't even register the thumb buttons as being clicked.

From the VMware WS 5.5.1 user manual :
Human Interface Devices
USB human interface devices, such as the keyboard and mouse, are not handled
though the virtual machine's USB controller. Instead, they appear in the virtual
machine as a standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse, even though they are plugged into
USB ports on the host.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
