Baloo search frontend for a lightweight desktop?

Hi Forum!

As mentioned in the subject im looking for some kind of baloo desktop search integration into setups with LXDE, fluxbox, awesome, i3 etc... I know its a bit contradicting with all of its dependencies in infamous performance issues -- the abilitly to index and plow through the content of hunderts of pdf files by just a few keywords is a feature I've really got accustomed to. I know that the baloo package ships with cli tools like baloosearch, balooshow and balooctl (which work really well), its just theres no non-kde gui application which uses them. And my attempts to integrate these cli tools into programs like dmenu or rofi via bash scripts to recreate at least the most basic functions of krunners desktop search abilities failed miserably...

Re: Baloo search frontend for a lightweight desktop?

Thanke you for your answer, I was not precise enough, i wanted to find a way to integrate my existing installation of baloo into other lightweight application starters such as dmenu or rofi to recreate potential of apps like krunner under small desktops. But your links to Recoll lead me to some new scripts combining this search engine with dmenu and from that I was finally able to create a _very_ basic baloo functionality for rofi:

#!/bin/bash

FILE_OPENER="rifle"
SEARCH_TOOL="baloosearch"

if [ -z "$@" ]
then
    echo "<Enter a query for desktop search>"
else
    if [ -f "$@" ]
    then
        $FILE_OPENER "$@"
    else
        $SEARCH_TOOL "$@" | sed \$d
    fi
fi

If there's anybody who's able to figure out if there's a way to make the search list more dynamic, let me know.
