Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

The flip_done issue seems to be present in 4.8 - the issue from the bug 100727 is only present in 4.10 and 4.11. Ie to test its easy: install arch linux-lts kernel (4.9) and plug/unplug the WD15 a few times ;-) some issues may occurs but not kernel panic/freeze => its likely you have the same issue as in 100727. If not => probably something else

Huh, thanks for the tip, LTS looks promising so far! Sometimes the external monitor doesn't actually work when I re-dock with LTS, but it's not hanging or kernel panicing (yet)!

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

Dang, even with the old kernel in LTS I just got another panic (the caps lock light started blinking, no output on either display).

I'm not seeing anything in the logs, and since the screen is black I don't have any way to tell what the actual output is. Is my next step getting a kdump kernel on here?

fwupdmgr says there's a BIOS 0.1.3.5 available.  Anyone updated yet and had issues/improvements?

yeah that behavior is unfortunately expected - still better than panic

im running 4.12rc1 now and did not run into any problem, if you wanna try (install linux-mainline from AUR f.ex.)

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

Does anybody have problems with audio over hdmi recently?

I use the DA200 and with both a manually patched 4.10 (for the DA200) and the current mainline 4.12-rc2 pulseaudio correctly detects the hdmi-output and everything, but no sound reaches the tv. It previously worked and still works under windows. Both pulseaudio nor the kernel throw any errors.

Has anyone noticed the fan doesn't seem to kick on until extremely high temp?(>80C?).. I also do not see it in sensors output.

Is the problem with freezing at start and resuming after suspend solved or not? I'm on 4.11.4-1 and still need to hard-reset the laptop 8-10 times before on 11th time it boots.

I don't have any of these symptoms with my XPS 13 (still on 4.11.3). Poweron and suspend/resume work without a problem here.

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

Hi all,

Very happy to see this thread. I have a 9360 as described in the subject line and have been developing install scripts for Arch (dual boot) for the past few weeks. Coming along nicely. The only real issue is the screen powering down (for perhaps 1 second) during boot, which I read occurs duing module loading (correct?). Have you fellows solved this?

Thanks,

Loady

I'm having similar problems, after resuming from systemctl suspend when running on batteries, I get a reboot instead. When on AC power,  can resume from suspend without problems. Extract from my journalctl. I'm on  4.11.6-1. Also tried downgrading to 4.11.4, does not solve.

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

Hello everyone !

Just got my Dell 9360 yesterday and first thing I did was to put Arch on it. Pretty smooth transition from my previous laptop so far but a small bug is bothering me and it seems I am quite the only one to have it.

My laptop doesn't seem to recognize when I plug or unplug my headphones. It was the same when I was on ALSA and now on ALSA + PulseAudio (I put PA to get sound in firefox).

I can switch to headphones output just fine in pavucontrol (it still tells me they are unplugged but the sound comes through) but it's quite annoying to manually switch each time. Any idea about where that could come from ?

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

Hello,

I recently switched from 4.9 NVME-patched kernel to mainline 4.11 kernel on my XPS 9360, and delayed hibernation stopped working for no apparent reason. The laptop suspends just fine, but it never reaches the stage of hibernation. Does anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?

Here is the exact script I'm using for delayed hibernation:

[Unit]
Description=Delayed hibernation trigger
Documentation=https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1420279#p1420279
Documentation=https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Power_management
Before=suspend.target
Conflicts=hibernate.target hybrid-sleep.target
StopWhenUnneeded=true

[Service]
Type=oneshot
RemainAfterExit=yes
Environment="WAKEALARM=/sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm"
Environment="SLEEPLENGTH=+2hour"
ExecStart=-/usr/bin/sh -c 'echo -n "alarm set for "; date +%%s -d$SLEEPLENGTH | tee $WAKEALARM'
ExecStop=-/usr/bin/sh -c '\
  alarm=$(cat $WAKEALARM); \
  now=$(date +%%s); \
  if [ -z "$alarm" ] || [ "$now" -ge "$alarm" ]; then \
     echo "hibernate triggered"; \
     systemctl hibernate; \
  else \
     echo "normal wakeup"; \
  fi; \
  echo 0 > $WAKEALARM; \
'

[Install]
WantedBy=sleep.target

And here's an extract of my journal after leaving the laptop suspended overnight.

Yes, I did add the "RESUME=..." kernel parameter. In fact, if I trigger hibernation manually (via systemctl) it works fine.

Got some issue yesterday after pacman -Syyu.  My wifi drop suddenly after some minutes. I need to switch to airplane and go back for resume.
After some search, i found that linux-firmware update was the issue. Revert to my previous package in /var/cache/pacman/pkg (20170422.ade8332-1) solve it.

I know i hade made some change in the directory  /lib/firmware/ath10k some month ago. I need to check with fresh directory, may be a file hasn't been updated correctly.

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

I think I figured out where the issue is.

The laptop is running in a hot place, whenever I perform an heavy task such as gaming or compiling, the CPU temperature goes up to 90°C and more, while the fans stay pretty quiet (comparatively, when performing the same tasks on Windows 10, the fans are much louder).

Then the kernel decides to throttle the CPU clock and it has some consequences on some system services, like the Wi-Fi one (don't ask me how, but it happens systematically).

Here's the dmesg output: https://hastebin.com/qupigineqo
The Wi-Fi connection drops exactly when the CPU's too hot.

I consider that as a huge kernel's misconducting to do not decide to ventilate more when needed.

It looks like kernel 4.12.3 is a culprit on my 9360.  As soon as I upgraded from 4.11.9 to 4.12.3 (along with latest linux-firmware), my wifi was disconnecting and the bottom of the laptop was super hot.  I rolled back to 4.11.9, wifi behaved and no abnormal heat issues.  I tried 4.11.9 to 4.12.3 again just to see, wifi started disconnecting almost immediately.  I am now running 4.11.9 searching for answers.

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

I'm having the wifi drops, but no issues with heat.  I was able to solve the wifi issue by downgrading the linux-firmware package to the 20170422 version.  Haven't had any issues with heat, thankfully

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

Looks like it is an either a new kernel 4.12.3 and old linux-firmware or older kernel 4.11.9 and new linux-firmware config to get it to work.

Re: Dell XPS 13 Late 2016 9360 Kaby Lake 7th Gen

Thanks for the wifi fix. That was driving me nuts!

Anyone have any issues plugging/unplugging power? Every time I do the system completely freezes and I need to do a hard reset. The only way around this is to suspend the sytem, (un)plug  power, wake up.

There are no errors in journalctl:

Aug 02 12:56:07 hostname wpa_supplicant[760]: wlp58s0: WPA: Group rekeying completed with 00:00:00:00:00:00 [GTK=CCMP]
-- Reboot --
Aug 02 13:06:19 hostname kernel: microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0x62, date = 2017-04-27

Happy to provide additional logs but I don't even know where to start troubleshooting this one.

I have a 9360 running kernel 4.12.3 and BIOS 1.3.5.
