[SOLVED] Cinnamon won't start after updating

Hi,

After today's bout of updates to cinnamon, whenever logging into a cinnamon session I get a dialog saying "Failed to load session cinnamon". When running startx the error "cinnamon-session[785]: WARNING: Unable to find required component cinnamon-setting-daemon"

Attempted to reinstall cinnamon but the problem persisted.

Edit: An update to Cinnamon a few hours later fixed the issue.

Yup, same here. Bad time to format the drive for me haha. I'm going to see if downgrading packages will do the trick. I'll come back with an edit if it solves anything.

Try updating your mirror list then run updates again. After the upgrade, my cinnamon was 3.2 and the rest of the cinnamon packages were on 3.4. I had the same issue and it is now resolved.

Take a look at the versions of your cinnamon packages:

pacman -Qs cinnamon-

What I did:

reflector --verbose --age 12 --country 'United States' --latest 5 --sort rate --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

pacman -Syu

Rolled back cinnamon-session and cinnamon-settings-daemon earlier to get it back. Cinnamon itself seems to have updated now though and all appears good.

Ok cool, maybe it was not what I did, but the timing of when I attempted to update again.
