Headphones shows as unplugged

Since i installed pulseaudio, i noticed that plasma-pa applet says my headphones are not plugged in, but they are.
Googling revealed me that maybe a kernel config parameter needs to be set, CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_JACK, but it is not here:

SND_HDA_INPUT_JACK config option was removed in commit 973109cafc9d11e41be4d64667ff2165bf79d948, so it last appeared in kernel 4.1. Assuming you have upgraded your kernel since then, seems that is just a red herring -- you can consider it always enabled now.
I'm not very familiar with pulse so I hesitate to try helping further. It seems searches for jack detection and pulse audio show up in some results, do any look relevant?

Sometimes there are incorrect hookups on the ALSA driver side and you might be able to fiddle something more correct with hdajackretask or you might have an alsamixer control to properly expose the jack events. Or the pulse mapping files have an incorrect value and you could try to figure out a correct combination that's a bit of a fickling work though

That said, is this just cosmetic or does something actively not work? Outputs of

pacmd list-cards
amixer -c$cardindex from aplay -l

might help to narrow this down

Well, i'd like to do something when i insert the headphones, like adding an equalizer to the sound chain.
May it be a flacky connector, maybe?
