I extracted photos using gphoto2(1) on the 20th. Today it fails as on plugging in the camera, /dev/bus/usb/003/005 appears, but it's root:root 664 and getfacl(1) doesn't show anything extra. Between those two dates, packages upgraded include libgphoto2 and linux.
I can work around the problem with a simple chmod, but I'd like to get it working properly. Is polkit meant to add me to the device's ACL? I've changed nothing in the desktop's configuration and polkitd and polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 are running on this Xfce4 desktop.
