I used to run DWM. I mainly switched because I was tired of apologizing for everybody's confusion when they jumped in front of my laptop and were completely lost. When I tried to find a compromise WM I tried to like enlightenment but that failed. At the moment I am running LXQT and despite the lack of tiling support I am honestly quite happy with it except for one thing.... Maybe two, but this post is about the first.
I like to keep my work entirely separate. Its much less confusing and allows me to stay better organized.
If for example, I open 4 terminals on desktop 1, chromium browser full screen in desktop 2 and open office in desktop three, I only want to see items within the focused desktop in the taskbar. It seems like it was designed to work that way because thats how ALT-TAB behaves, so perhaps the problem is just with LXQT panel. Is there a way to force this behavior? Is there a name for it?

You may want to revise your title - this has nothing to do with the WM or Desktops, it's purely a lxpanel configuration issue. There is no standard terminology across taskbar configurations. In tint2 what you'd be looking for is taskbar_mode (for which "single_desktop" and "multi_desktop" are options, you'd want the former).
The config options you are looking for will almost certainly include "workspace" or "desktop", but beyond that there is no general term and I'm not familiar with lxpanel configs. I just tried searching, and one of the first things I found was an article comparing lxpanel and tint2 which highlights that tint2's default behavior of "single_desktop" is different from lxpanel's behavior and discusses how tint2's behavior can be configured. While not explicilty stated it seems to suggest that lxpanel may not be able to be configured for a comparable mode. (edit: the blog I found seems to be misleading, see below)

First hit for "lxqt only show applications per desktop"
https://github.com/lxde/lxqt/issues/169 … t-61465958
So it should be there and configurable, what have you tried?
