Eclipse 4.7 Oxygen will be out tomorrow (Jun 28), I'm curious to see if the GTK3 integration has improved. The GTK Wiki (https://wiki.eclipse.org/SWT/Plan/4.7) shows a lot of "PARTLY DELIVERED" and "DEFERRED", so this may not be that much better than Neon, which I still force to run on GTK2.
Has anyone tried the release candidate for Oxygen on GTK3?

I'll provide an update on this myself: it seems that (finally) GTK3 integration with Eclipse 4.7 works well, from a performance perspective. If you install Eclipse manually from downloaded tar.gz files, be sure to have webkit2gtk installed for the inline Javadoc and content assist dialogs to work well. The repo version has it as a dependency already.
Not sure if OP is still around, but we may be able to finally mark this thread as [SOLVED].
