Nautilus: Drag and drop from address bar

When I try to drag my address bar in linux to paste the path somewhere else, all the window move. I would like to know if there is any way to drag (and copy) only the address when doing this as it is in Nautilus in Ubuntu.

Re: Nautilus: Drag and drop from address bar

Press Ctrl+L to switch from Nautilus path bar (breadcrumbs buttons) to the location bar (showing path as string). You can than drag and drop (or copy) the path to other application windows. After that press ESC to switch back to path bar.

Re: Nautilus: Drag and drop from address bar

Thanks for your reply,. I'm using these shortcuts since I'm on arch, however the unity behavior is very handy allowing you to drag adresses as text but also to drag them on launchers to open à folder on spécifications app for example. I'd like to know how the Ubuntu team implemented this.

It was worked earlier on Arch Linux too, but it's broken some times ago. Anyway, you can report this problem to upstream: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/page.cgi?id= … t=nautilus

Re: Nautilus: Drag and drop from address bar

Previously this was a general feature of Nautilus, not just on Ubuntu as already mentioned by City-busz. But the Nautilus devs removed it in this commit after discussing it here to leave more room for grabbing/moving the window.

Since the change of many Gnome applications to use GtkHeaderBar with client side decorations (which I really like), there is sometimes little space to grab the windows. Thus, it makes sense that you can grab the window also by any button in the header bar. On Ubuntu this problem does not exist, as they always draw an additional window title bar on Nautilus.

I've been trying to figure out how to do that for a while. Is there a way to permanently leave it like that?

Re: Nautilus: Drag and drop from address bar

To leave it as adress bar you have a setting:

org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry

. To check status type:

gsettings get org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry

If you want to set it to false:

gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry false
