Hi all,
I'm trying hard to get a running setup for ethereum gpu mining. I installed the catalyst driver from Vi0l0's repository, including the opencl-catalyst package.
I tried several ethminer packages from the AUR:
- ethereum
- ethereum-git
- ethereum-genoil-git
All of them failed in build or if succeeded, I cannot run the miner with this error message:
"no gpu device with sufficient memory was found. Can't GPU mine. Remove the -G argument"
But finally, installing "ethereum-genoil-ocl-git" worked and also GPU are found. However, as already mentioned by p4block in the package comments, running it with the wrong OpenCl version will freeze the system, what actually happened also on my machine.
I also replaced opencl-catalyst by opencl-amd from the AUR, but in the 17.10 version, which also produces the freeze and I should use the version 16.40 of the package. Anyway, it occurs that I'm too stupid to install the old version of that package (maybe someone can help me? I edited the PKGBuild with the correct version number and checksum, but on installation, it cannot find the .deb file).
So, maybe someone has a running ethereum mining setup with an AMD RX470 and can share his experience? I'd be very glad.
Cheers,
confuso

the catalyst driver is way to old to support the RX470 .
If you want to try opencl-amd 16.40 , use https://github.com/grmat/amdgpocl/blob/16.40/PKGBUILD .
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Oh damn, you're right... thank you for the hint. Installing the correct driver now.
Anyway, if someone has a working setup, I'd still be happy about some information!
