[SOLVED] Compaq Presario CQ360 cpu clock slow

I recently bought this notebook and installed ArchLinux. But I'm having problems with processor performance. It has a low clock (480Mhz) at rest but when it needs performance it takes time to switch to a higher clock rate, and when it does it reaches 1300Mhz or so.
I followed the steps of the Laptop-Mode wiki and the best I got was the result described above. (It was worse)
Something I discovered was when the following kernel message appears performance drops and does not return to normal:

 CPU0: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1) 

The message above appears just after a few seconds of boot. I realized the diference performance because even dmesg output are affected.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Have you actually checked what the temperatures look like in BIOS and inside the OS (sensors-detect and sensors from the package lm_sensors)? Perhaps the CPU temperature sensor is being read incorrectly, which causes the clocks to be held back.

I checked for linux through the sensors command and the values were low. I ran the command now and the answer was this:

I added the dmesg output in the above lines. As you can see the problem happened.
The bios is very simple and does not show the temperature or a log on the error or alert events.
As I said in the first post and explaining better here, it seems that the kernel slows down because of the "warming up" but can not get back to normal.

Temperatures seem fine indeed. Not sure why it numbers the cores 0 and 2 instead of 0 and 1, but that is probably irrelevant to the issue at hand.

How are you verifying that it takes time for the clocks to rise and that around 1300 MHz seems to be the maximum? If it's done via cpufreq-bench I've sadly never used it. Could you check how

pstate-frequency -G -r

behaves while you run

stress -c 2

? Also how exactly was it worse before you went trough the laptop-mode wiki page (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Laptop_Mode_Tools, correct?)?

Yes, it is!

The clock change was slower than now and the clock rarely up from 480mz

I'm not familiar with conky either, but it might be doing some averaging, which results in the change appearing to be slower than it actually is.

The order of your post makes it seem like you only checked the frequency before starting the stress test instead of monitoring it while the test was running. For example you can use

watch pstate-frequency -G -r

to continuously poll for the frequency while stress is running in the background or in another terminal window.

i7z

is also a good option for monitoring the frequency.

If you did indeed measure the frequency mentioned in your post while the stress test was ongoing, there really does seem to be a problem. Right now I'm just trying verify that the problem actually exists outside of the dmesg error entry too.

I'm not sure how but the problem stopped.
I did the following tests exactly in this sequence:
1. Remove (pacman -Rs) cpupower from Arch Linux and reboot (problem persist);
2. Disable cpufreq in laptop-mode-tools and reboot (problem persist);
3. Disable secure boot (EFI) on Bios and reboot (problem persist);
4. Disable audio, webcan, wireless, card reader, touch screen, lan card and virtualization on bios and reboot. <== Exactly here the problem has stopped occurring

The message in dmesg has stopped being displayed.
Programs, like firefox, have stopped slowing to open and load the menu.
From here I began to isolate the problem. I started activating what I had turned off one by one:
1. Enable wireless on bios and reboot;
2. Enable audio on bios and reboot;
3. Enable lan on bios and reboot;
4. Enable card reader on bios and reboot;
5. Enable touch on bios and reboot;
6. Enable webcan on bios and reboot;
7. Enable virtualization on bios and reboot;

And the problem did not occur anymore.
The notebook has the same settings before I start testing but the problem is no longer occurring. Only secure boot is still disabled.
It ran a youtube video in HD perfectly.
Now the processor clock hits 2.4Ghz in turbo bust.

Maybe a bios problem. I don't know.
It' a 1.0 version released in 08/22/2016.
