HiDPI with multiple displays

Hello everybody,

I usually add a 2nd (sometimes 3rd) display to my HiDPI notebook.

Those additional displays are sometimes HiDPI as well.

Until the last gtk+ release this setup was usable without any configuration files or manual adjustments in desktop environment settings.
Unfortunately I am apparently supposed to do something manually: https://linux.slashdot.org/comments.pl? … d=54565873

I use plasma desktop and for instance chromium doesn't detect the dpis of my displays any longer.

The bug reports mention changing some configuration files.
* Do I really have to manually change configurations every time I connect an external display?
* Is this supposed to work automatically?  For plasma? For gtk/gnome?

I tried to find out, if those issues will become a thing of the past with wayland.  But apparently even there manual configuration (in plasma) will be necessary:

I guess my questions can be summarized as:
* What do I have to do _now_ to get automatic dpi detection / scaling?
* Will there be automatic dpi detection / scaling in the "near" future?

And finally my last question:
is there any chance of persuading the arch maintainer of gtk+ to revert the mentioned commit so that for instance chromium can detect dpis again?
How should I proceed if there is a chance?

thanks for reading
Christian
