Hello,
I just connected a (supposingly) old HP L2245wg display to my laptop. I used a Mini-DP to DVI cable. The DVI connector looks like DualLink (all pins are there)
xrandr gives me:
HDMI1 connected 1600x1000+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 470mm x 300mm
1680x1050 59.95 +
1600x1000 60.01*
1280x1024 75.02 60.02
So you see the display is not running at its preferred resolution, but it works.
Using the native resolution: xrandr --output HDMI1 --auto
HDMI1 connected 1680x1050+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 470mm x 300mm
1680x1050 59.95*+
1600x1000 60.01
1280x1024 75.02 60.02
but the display stays blank. I can not even enter the OSD menu. The graphics adapter can surely deliver the resolution, I have ran displays at 1920x1080 at this output.
xrandr --output HDMI1 --mode 1600x1000 restors the display, but not at its native resolution.
I also tried different --rate parameters (60, 50, 30).
Graphics card driver is xf86-video-intel.
I hope anyone of you has any ideas!
EDIT: I noticed that are also some colors wrong, like a yellow shadow, sometimes connected to the mouse cursor. May the cable be defect? (bought in a small shop in Singapore)
Thanks!
Florian

I honestly cannot help you a lot with the monitor issues, but you could try to remove (or disable) the xf86-video-intel package (or driver) as it is known to be unstable for some. See Intel graphics. Should be easy to test I guess.

Thanks for your input, unfortunatly it changed nothing, only that my laptops display background setting has no effect anymore.

That line looks like you have 2 monitors, is that correct ?
HDMI1 & "I used a Mini-DP to DVI cable"
Is the cable connected to a DisplayPort connector or to HDMI ?
Post full xrandr output, lspci -k , and xorg log please.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Unfortunatly, in the meantime I found another way and also exchanged the cable.
It seems that the DP is internally treated as HDMI.

DisplayPort changes to HDMI if it senses that type of monitor.
