Gnome Night Light doesn't work unless I switch virtual consoles

Night Light doesn't change color tone unless I change to another virtual console, and then back again to Gnome. Also when starting Nvidia X Server Settings, the red tone is gone again, so I suspect it has something to do with the Nvidia driver. Was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem? Can't seem to find anything through Google.

Gnome 3.24.2 - Nvidia drivers 381.22 (GTX 980)

I also have this problem- thanks for the tip about switching consoles, I never would have tried that.

I am running the intel driver so it's not an Nvidia thing.

Problem just started after I upgraded to 4.11.9-1 tonight.

It's worth mentioning that I do not do frequent upgrades-- I am not certain it was running before-- it may not have worked since 4.10.10-1 actually.

I have the same problem when launching nvidia settings. Had it since the Gnome version with night light came to Arch.
I also was wondering why nobody mentions this bug.

But i don't have any problems with console switching.

Gnome 3.24.2
Nvidia driver 384.90
GTX 1050 Ti

Having this issue also. Night light previously worked fine but today I noticed that it has stopped working.

After booting the color looks as if night light was disabled even though it's enabled, and disabling/enabling it doesn't make any difference. Same thing if I start Redshift. It says that color temperature is being changed etc, but no visible change can be seen. After switching to a virtual console and then back again both night light and Redshift works as expected. Starting Nvidia settings also breaks night light but disabling/enabling it works in this case.

Kernel Linux 4.14.3-1-ck
GNOME 3.26.2+5+g3b4be770a
Nvidia drivers 387.34
GTX 780

It could maybe have to do with incorrect rights on the active ICC-profile (color space profile). Try grepping journald:

journalctl -xe | grep 'failed to set screen _ICC_PROFILE:'

See if you get a result like:

gsd-color[899]: failed to set screen _ICC_PROFILE: Failed to open file “/home/xxx/.local/share/icc/someprofile.icc”: Permission denied

If so:

sudo chmod o+r /home/xxx/.local/share/icc/someprofile.icc

Reboot, and see if that helps. This just solved it for me actually, but not sure if it was the same problem as before, because Night Light just started working after a while by itself, but yesterday I had the same symptoms again.
