I've discovered a problem after recent HUGE upgrade.
I no longer have any Polish (iso-8859-2, UTF8) characters in my Konsole (KDE) and terminal without X's when local characters are showing on the screen. When I type, everything is Ok.
My rc.conf:
LOCALE="pl_PL.iso88592"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE="Europe/Warsaw"
KEYMAP="pl"
CONSOLEFONT=
CONSOLEMAP=
i used LOCALE="pl_PL.utf8" too
and /etc/locale-gen
pl_PL.UTF-8 UTF-8
pl_PL ISO-8859-2
and locales were generated correctly...
Anyone has any ideas?
Thanks!

If we are thinking about the same thing, I believe it's coreutils' fault - since version 5.96-1 Polish letters are broken for applications from this package. Try 'awk --help', you should be able see Polish letters correctly. Unfortunatelly, I don't know why this is happening.

You're right "awk --help" showed letters correctly.
So i think i'll have to wait for some kind of solution
Thanks for the hint swiergot

Well I found a confirmation on Polish Slackware Forum - http://forum.slackware.pl/viewtopic.php?t=9776 - the same problem.
Is it safe to downgrade coreutils to older versionright now in Arch?

And here's the SOLUTION!:
------------
1. download ftp://sunsite.icm.edu.pl/packages/priva … 5.96.pl.po
2. type
# msgfmt coreutils-5.96.pl.po -o coreutils.mo
3. replace bad files with new one (remember to make a backup )
# mv coreutils.mo /usr/share/locale/pl/LC_MESSAGES/
Thanks Sajmon from Polish Slackware Forum!

Looks like somebody tried to convert the Polish translation to UTF-8 and screwed up. It will be fixed in the next release as it's now ok again in coreutils' CVS.
In the meantime here is a fixed package:

How nice to see like polish ppls are talking in foreign language. :-P
I thought that was coreutils problem after my last big upgrade, but it was only /etc/profile fault . ;-)
