Keyboard/trackpad input freezes -- ACPI errors

I have a problem on a new Arch install on a Lenovo Y700 laptop.

Boot is successful, but dmesg includes:

ACPI: Core revision 20170119
[ 0.030337] ACPI Error: [\_SB_.PCI0.XHC_.RHUB.HS11] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20170119/dswload-210)
[ 0.030498] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, During name lookup/catalog (20170119/psobject-227)
[ 0.030687] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, (SSDT:CB-01 ) while loading table (20170119/tbxfload-228)
[ 0.033014] ACPI Error: 1 table load failures, 9 successful (20170119/tbxfload-246)

The system then works normally (NVIDIA video, i3) until at some point (which could be every few days, or a couple of times a day) keyboard and trackpad input stop working. Anything already running (e.g. video) continues as normal, but there is no response to the keyboard or trackpad.

During these episodes, there are error messages in the form:

(etc. etc. until I hard reset).

There's no pattern I can see in terms of when the episodes occur.

I've tried googling the error messages, without finding anything helpful so far. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Re: Keyboard/trackpad input freezes -- ACPI errors

The initial error is unrelated and the failed battery polling probably just another symptom. The problem is probably the i2c bus.
Can you log into the system via ssh or maybe just let a "dmesg -w" run?

I'll try that the next time it happens and report back. Thanks!

OK, it's happened again. The full output from dmesg -w is at https://pastebin.com/m91gSSeB The system is still on, so I can try any suggestions.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AC … _notebooks

Is this maybe related to the charging condition of your battery (like you plugged/pulled AC or the battery went low or similar)?

The laptop had been plugged in in AC all evening, so I don't think so.

Edited to add: I'm giving up for the night and shutting down now. Shutdown via ssh leaves the computer "slightly" on -- fan and lights still on. If nothing else, next time I can see whether restart works properly. smile

Re: Keyboard/trackpad input freezes -- ACPI errors

Another episode.

[Edited to add:] USB keyboard and mouse work.

[Edited again to add:] Slightly overconfident, I wondered whether suspend and resume would work with the usb mouse and keyboard attached. It didn't, and they stopped working. Pastebin of dmesg output for that part of the session is here: https://pastebin.com/nRcA8JDN

There have been some temperature warnings, but apparently only after the freeze started:

[18994.730922] ACPI Exception: AE_TIME, Returned by Handler for [EmbeddedControl] (20170119/evregion-300)
[18994.730930] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB.PCI0.LPCB.EC0.BAT0._BST] (Node ffff88046f8e3fa0), AE_TIME (20170119/psparse-543)
[18994.730939] ACPI Exception: AE_TIME, Evaluating _BST (20170119/battery-530)
[18995.985053] CPU6: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 66828)
[18995.985054] CPU2: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 66828)
[18995.986083] CPU6: Core temperature/speed normal
[18995.986083] CPU2: Core temperature/speed normal
[18997.230925] ACPI Exception: AE_TIME, Returned by Handler for [EmbeddedControl] (20170119/evregion-300)
[18997.230935] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB.PCI0.LPCB.EC0.BAT0._BST] (Node ffff88046f8e3fa0), AE_TIME (20170119/psparse-543)
[18997.230944] ACPI Exception: AE_TIME, Evaluating _BST (20170119/battery-530)

The temperature warnings kept coming, so I restarted the machine through ssh. Systemctl reboot, like suspend, did not complete -- I had to hard reset.

And again. This time with usb mouse and keyboard; systemctl reboot works, although before the grub menu I got a bios-type menu (there were options to continue boot or edit bios). After the reboot, usb keyboard and mouse work, the laptop ones don't. Dmesg from this boot is at https://pastebin.com/JRnzsinZ .
