Hi everyone,
I started experiencing issues with notification pop-ups in KDE Plasma since the upgrade to KDE frameworks 5.36.
Notification pop-up is not completely visible, only thin vertical line of the far right part of the pop-up is visible (screenshot is attached).

I can't be sure that this is connected with the KDE Frameworks upgrade but it started occurring after that. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Ok, that's actually good to hear. If more of us are experiencing the same thing it probably means that it's an upstream bug. Let's hope that guys from KDE will fix it in the next point release of KDE Frameworks.

There already is an upstream bug (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382340) but there is not much information given. Maybe you could hop on and give some clues on why this happens.
For me the notifications work as always.

@hoerbert: I have absolutely no clue on why this happens. This is obviously a regression from KDE frameworks 5.35, but that's all I can presume.

At first I was allso sure, that it is a problem with framework 5.36. Then I upgraded my other PC which now allso has framework 5.36 and notifications are woking.
So now I have no idea what is causng the problem.

I'm affected as well, i tried to restart plasmashell and switch theme to no avail.
-EDIT-
From my comment on the bug report:
I narrowed down the problem to the library: libKF5PlasmaQuick.so.5.36.0
swapping just that with libKF5PlasmaQuick.so.5.35.0 (and related symlinks of course) makes notifications happy again.

@kokoko3k interesting, thanks for that info...
i cannot figure this one out cause on the one hand switching to older libKF5PlasmaQuick fixes notifications BUT also using a newly created user account also fixes things.. that is, on my system experiencing the issue, i added a new test user some days ago and everything worked just fine... ontop of that a hell of a lot of new options and functionality was noticed which means the KDE guys are doing a terrible job re making sure new functionality works for new AND old... the base right-click context menu on standard plasma desktop is the most obvious one... and its not like some Kbuntu release schedule at play here... its Arch, its roilling so my config is updated pretty much 24-48hours upon release from Arch stable repos...
Because of this, and i suggest you guys give the new user test a try to see if notifications work AND you notice lots of new stuff unavailable to your current profile's GUI... I'm going to basically setup a new user account, reconfigure it (do NOT look forward to it) and once done switch the UIDs etc so all is intact and can be worked upon inparallel to existing account...
to be fair though, KDE Plasma is still the best out there, just wish things were better tested or perhaps we are on the fringe and unlucky?

Ok then, notifications are working again for me.
I've a dual head setup, and since i read that someone with a single monitor has not that problem, i tried to switch off one monitor by using kscreen.
Nothing was fixed, so i tried to turn off the other monitor, nothing fixed.
So i turned on both again and to my surprise one of the monitors showed a dafault plasma desktop, not the one i customized.
Grr plasma, grrr.
I clicked "default" and my previously configured plasma desktop were back.
The only problem is that widgets were inverted from one monitor to the other, but HEY, notifications are working!
I moved widgets to the other monitors and i'm fine.
@ozmartian: Arch packages only upstream releases, if they mess-up user config files it is their fault...
-EDIT-
Maybe i've a recipe for dual-head setups.
1) start kcmshell5 kcm_kscreen
2) disable left monito, apply
3) enable left monitor, apply
4) disable right monitor, apply
5) enable right monitor, apply
6) click "defaults", apply
7) select the right primari display, apply.
Test notifications.
All of that reminds me of past days when i was a Windows user, click here and there without knowing why, it may work...

@kokoko3k fix didn't work for me but I found a workaround
I have 3 screens and they are set hdmi-displayport-dvi
when I create a new user plasma set my screens in the following order dvi-hdmi-displayport but the notifications work if I reorder them the way I want the next time I will login they will break again
but if before I logout I set them the way plasma did in the new user than they will still work the next time I login
so basically setting the screens in a certain order before logout make the notification work again.

Patch has been backported by arojas. Should be fine now.

@PootisBird: I had an upgrade to plasma-frameworks, but I still experience the same bug. Is there another upgrade coming with this fix?

Ookay... That's a different bug. I will remember to read all posts before assuming...

Yep, unfortunately after a logout notifications does not work with my workaround, confirmed

put your left most screen as your primary display and the next time you login notifications should work

I'm still experiencing the same issue with plasma-frameworks 5.37. Can anyone else confirm this?

Looking at the upstream bug report posted earlier, a fix has been pushed: https://cgit.kde.org/plasma-framework.g … 904f38c634
You might want to patch this yourself to test, or wait for the next frameworks release which should contain that. Looks like it barely didn't make the 5.37 cutoff it's the first commit after that tag. Maybe also make an Arch bug report, asking for the patch to be backported so that you don't have to wait a month

I just opened this bug: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55179
Hopefully we'll get the patch backported and finally have a fix to this annoying issue.

And please check for already-opened bugs before you do.

I can confirm that the latest plasma-framework package (5.37.0-2) fixes this issue. Marking this as solved.
