Hello Arch,
I'm having issues installing a package that clearly exists: gcc48 and I can not find an answer that fixes my problem. E.g.: this post.
What I'm doing is:
sudo pacman -S gcc48
and i get:
error: target not found: gcc48
..but i can clone the repository without any problem. Updating repositories, as stated in linked post, does not fix my issue.
Any help would be appreciated.

That package isn't in the repos, it's an AUR package.

gcc48 does not exist in the binary repos.

You are confusing official repositories with the AUR (Arch User Repository).
Read up on what the AUR is, and how you can build packages from it:
