Black screen between GDM and Gnome

After logging in with gdm, there is 5 seconds delay before gnome starts. Screen's turning into black and flickers a few times.
That's very annoying and I'd like to fix it. I'm not using any bootsplashes or anything.
I think the problem is with my Nvidia GTX970 GPU, I had some problems with it, e.g. screen turns into one big artifact after booting without proprietary drivers (nomodeset fixes this, in some way).

gdm 3.24.2-1
gnome-shell 3.24.2-1
nvidia 381.22-4

No wayland. I'm not sure about the journal, I'm new to arch and linux, maybe this one.

Re: Black screen between GDM and Gnome

GDM is using wayland by default (independent of the desktop environment it starts). You might try to disable this and use X also for GDM, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GD … rg_backend
