[Solved] Black screen at boot with recent versions of the kernel

Hi

I'm expiriencing a black screen after boot in recent kernels, the last one that works is the kernel 4.11.3, the newer ones including the linux-lts also boot to black screen.
I have also tried with the linux-zen kernel, but I have the same issue.

The laptop is an Asus UX305UA, which has a intel i7-6500U and intel HD graphics 520. Passing the nomodeset kernel parameter gets me to the login terminal, but Xorg fails
to work.

I have tried the following to no avail:

- Installing intel-ucode and verifying that it gets updated at boot
- Adding i915.enable_execlists=0 to the kernel boot as suggested in here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AS … _Pro_UX501

Thanks! Enabling CSM in the BIOS solved the issue
