As I write this post it's very slow to select the text here in this input box. Selecting text in address bar, gnome-terminal or keepass is normal.
I've tried disabling hardware acceleration in FF and killing compton but no help.
Another issue is different mouse cursor sizes between GTK/QT applications. Is there a good solution for this?
Running X and i3-wm in Intel HD4400 and modesetting driver.

So it looks like I've fixed both issues for now. Haven't rebooted yet.
- install xcursor-vanilla-dmz-0.4.4-1
- set Inherits = xcursor-vanilla-dmz in /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
- reload i3
- revert back to Inherits=Adwaita in /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
- reload i3
Both issues fixed for now.

The "fix" doesn't perist across reboots. The lag is gone but gnome-terminal and firefox have different size mouse cursors in the title bar.
Looking at keepass the cursor is bigger in the titlebar than in window contents.
Is there a proper fix? Running dual monitors with a custom 10-monitor.conf.

Looks like this is solved by adding:
[Settings]
gtk-cursor-theme-name=Adwaitain ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
