About the new 2.6.17-ARCH kernel and its Broadcom Support

Hello,

I've a HP NX 9105 with a Broadcom wifi integrated card on it.. I've upgraded my system as the testing repo is moved to the current.. The update process was fine and everything works fine here.. But I've got 1 serious problem..

Now, I can see my wireless card without ndiswrapper by typing iwconfig.. But when I do that, it first writes that the compiled driver is version 20, but upto version 19 is supported.. than it prints out other info about my card as usual..

I can connect to my wireless with iwconfig wlan0 essid ... but it doesn't give me an IP.

How can we solve this problem ? I'll try to write the exact error messages if necessary.. Thanks a lot to great Arch people..

This is not important - it simply means that your kernel is more up-to-date than your wireless_tools package. The message will go away when wireless_tools is updated, but in the meantime everything will work as it should.

I'm sure you know this already, but that iwconfig command does not get an IP address - you need to use ifconfig or dhcpcd for that, after iwconfig.

It's always necessary, IMO. However, as mentioned above, there's no need to post the version 19/20 message.

There's a native driver in 2.6.17, take a look at the instructions here:
http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/?go=Documentation

you need to use their fw-cutter tool to cut some firmware out of a windows driver, then the native driver should work perfectlu for you. Undoubtedly much better than ndiswrapper.

Re: About the new 2.6.17-ARCH kernel and its Broadcom Support

I tried to use native driver for broadcom in kernel 2.6.17. Seems to work fine util I pinged some host, I got lots of DUP packets while pinging. On ndiswrapper this never happened. So I will wait for more stable version of this bcm43xx driver.
