what is a difference between mkinitcpio-kernel26.conf in boot and mkinitcpio.conf in etc directory?

i think mkinitcpio-kernel26.conf manages the fallback boot image.

The one in /etc is for your customization. The default settings in there should work sane and do autodetection. The one in /boot is for the fallback image only, it includes pretty much every hard disk controller module, but no special setup like lvm or raid.
