Plasma freeze

Hie, I have a problem since a time now : KDE Plama freeze randomly on my laptop (an ASUS ROG). In fact, my mouve and my keyboard are not reponding and I can't do anything expt a hard reboot (with the power button).
I have read many docs, but there are any entry on the KDE ArchWiki, I have aldo attempted to change my graphic diver (any effect) and this problem don't append on the MATE desktop environement.
I have any more idea to fix this problem, so please, help me... Thank you.

Re: Plasma freeze

I've also had frequent plasma freezes on version 5.10.3 without using the wallpaper slideshow.
The application launcher and clock stopped working and I was unable to minimize/maximize windows from the taskbar.

Since last friday I'm using version 5.10.4 and no freezes so far.

Since version 5.10.3 I have a different issue: I can't unlock using KDE's default screenlocker (kscreenlocker_greet). Replacing it with slock made unlocking work as expected.

Re: Plasma freeze

OK, it seem to work on the short term. I'll see about long term now.

Also, eric, my issue isn't the same of yours... Maybe it is a problem with your graphic driver (intel) because some of KDE freeze problem are linked with the intel graphic driver. Concern my problem, it's still present with it disabled.

Re: Plasma freeze

@eric
This sounds like two isolated problems: one with the plasmashell process and the other one with the PAM interaction of kscreenlocker (or the greeter being broken)
Neither of those relates directly to a completely frozen system (which could be due to the slideshow memory leaks and heavy swapping)

You should (if concerned) open a different thread for the kscreenlocker issue (unless you've done so ;-)

Re: Plasma freeze

Hi, thank you, the bug seem to be fixed with wallpaper slidesshow... But I liked this functionality and I would like to know if there isn't a way to keep the wallpaper slidesshow functionality enabled without have the bug. Thank you.

Wait on upstream to fix the issue. Or fix the issue and send a patch upstream to Qt and see if they accept this fix.

Re: Plasma freeze

Are you saying you fixed the code and tested it and it works, you just don't know how to submit the patch?

Re: Plasma freeze

Yes, the bug isn't happened since I have disabled the Wallpaper slideshow in the desktop config panel... But I haven't any skills in programming.

Re: Plasma freeze

Then unfortunately you will have to wait on the QT folks to fix the bug and deploy the changes. There would be nothing else you can do.
