Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E460 --- Issues with dedicated GPU & OneLink Dock

Dear community,

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E460 20EU-S000, but after installing archlinux I encountered some issues regarding video output and want to ask for your help and experience with similar problems. The notebook has the following specifications (according to the vendor):

  • Intel Core i5-6200U 'Skylake'

  • Intel HD Graphics 520

  • AMD Radeon R7 M360

Dedicated GPU

I cannot find a way to get the dedicated GPU to run. After installing both open source drivers 'xf86-video-intel' and 'xf86-video-amdgpu', 'xrandr' only shows the Intel device. With lspci, the AMD device is listed as an 'Display controller', not as a 'VGA controller' like the Intel one. Since the notebook is relatively new on the market, could it be an issue that the drivers are not compatible up to now?

I followed the linked guide for AMD hybrid solutions and enabled 'xcompmgr' for my LXDE environment, but I cannot get any further in this tutorial, since I cannot find vgaswitcheroo in the debug folder. PRIME will not work either, since the AMD device is not listed as an 'VGA controller'. (see: https://xpressrazor.wordpress.com/2013/ … amd-setup/ )

Lenovo OneLink Pro Dock

Together with the notebook I bought a OneLink Pro Dock, since I did not find any issues with archlinux related to other Lenovo devices. (see for example: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Le … 29#Docking ).

The problem is that the system freezes as soon as one display is activated that ist connected to the docking station.

I am able to reproduce this in different ways:

  1. booting with video device connected to Dock

  2. running 'xrandr --auto' after connecting video device over Dock

  3. using 'lxrandr' to specify a video device connected with Dock

'lxrandr' lists the following devices, if a proper end device is connected:
NB Screen: eDP1 - works
HDMI output: HDMI2 - works
DVI (Dock): DP1-1 - freeze
Display Port (Dock): DP1-2 - freeze

Following 1.) shows some error at booting before starting the desktop environment. I guess it is related to the Intel video module since i915 is listed multiple times. After googling the error message, it seems that there are issues with the i915 module and the DisplayPort output, which seems to be the case for both DVI and DisplayPort output for the Dock as indicated by the DP prefix. Are 'Skylake' GPUs not supported completely up to now? Are there hotfixes I could try?

Possible Solutions?

Before changing my whole system, I'd like to point out some ideas. If you think they're promising, I'll give those a try:

Should I install the 'catalyst-total' package from AUR instead of using the open source driver? Would that resolve all problems?

I'm using LXDE as desktop environment. Could probably others run without problems?

I would welcome any response!

Best regards,
Tomatopaste

No need to necro an old thread if you have one that already sees strong activity.

Continue in the linked thread if necessary.
