Wine is in unreadable language [solved]

I can't even determine what kind of language it is...definately something Eastern, but the symbols don't seem to match anything I've ever seen.  I was trying to use the wow-patched wine from the AUR, BTW, thanks Wolfman, but then I went to install *wow*, that was the first problem I noticed.  The terminal outputs this:

fixme:richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc WM_SETFONT: stub
Missing symbol {LanguageCode}! (SymbolTable::UnmappedSymbolSubstitution)
fixme:richedit:IRichEditOle_fnGetClientSite stub 0x1006a220
fixme:ole:OleCreateStaticFromData (not shown), stub!

I would think it's somehow related to the riched20 and riched32 dlls, but considering wine can't figure out what language it's supposed to run in at all, then I don't know what to say.

I think I know what you mean. Get your .wine directory set up (winetools makes this pretty easy), and if it still isn't right, then track down the Arial font and put it in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts. Somehow I ended up with nothing there (even after trying to install it with winetools) and all the text was displayed in Thai characters.

It may also, as a known wine problem with directx be "flipping" the font so it's reading backwards and not the correct way.

Re: Wine is in unreadable language [solved]

I made a symbolic link to my fonts directory in Arch.  wine seems to display proper characters, now, but I can't get wow to install at all.  Leads me to believe that since the pkgbuild didn't have this, then there could something else wrong with it, too. Otherwise, this is related to the rather large testing~current move of Arch packages.  I don't know.  I've got a thread in the multimedia section, and I posted at winehq.  Wish me luck, I guess.

Just wish I had the time to figure this out for myself.  I'd uninstall and delete my wine directory and try doing everything manually, but I've spent half a day on this already and won't have time during the week to muck with it.  Thanks for the help, though.  wink

What's that about? If you're trying to bump your thread this isn't allowed here. Just wait until someone responds, if no one does. Then we simply don't have an answer for you. Try posting at WinHQ or ask around the IRC channel.

  No, sorry, it's actually not the easiest way to explain how I wound up with that post.  It was actually a late double-post related to what appears to be a firefox bug with my mouse scroll-wheel. So I just edited it to say "***".  Sorry for not explaining this.  Read you loud and clear, though.  I posted at winehq yesterday.  As far as I'm concerned, this thread is dead, because the fonts error is fixed.
