how to trace programs keybindings as triggered by key chords/events?

I've had a number of issues with keybindings and shortcuts being super unpredictable.  Like Ctrl+Alt+E used to allow me to split windows in Terminator, but now they bring up an Emoji Choices window, which I have no clue where it belongs.  I've had incidents such as this before and I tried to find key events through xbindkeys -k but that just shows the keycode which shows nothing about what program took ownership of that particular key chord/combo.  Any help on this would be much appreciated.

EDIT: I found out that the ctrl+alt+e keybinding was linked to my ibus preferences, which someone who just happened to know that that was the default told me.  But I have another issue with another keybinding that used to work for one program (ctrl+alt+a) but no longer responds.
