[SOLVED] Do I need to reinstall firmware packages afer an upgrade?

Bit confused; I'd always thought firmware files (.fw) were separated from the kernel, so updating the kernel should not matter.
After a reboot I keep getting messages that custom installed firmware files (in /usr/lib/firmware) cannot be found, running # depmod -a and replugging the USB fixes this issue.

How to solve this? Is there something like DKMS for firmware files?

Thanks. smile

Found the user error! tongue
I had linux-ck-headers and linux-ck-headers-skylake both installed, removing the first one fixes the issue. smile
