hey everyone.
i've compiled my own 2.6.17.1 kernel from abs and also built the nvidia and nvidia-utils packages for that cause, but since, there is a "extra/nvidia 1.0.8762-4" package and my version is only "local/nvidia 1.0.8762-1" pacman wants to update. the problem: modprobe won't let me insert the "-4" module. is there a convenient way to circument that problem?

1) rename your nvidia package (for example nvidia-custom)
2) you don't have to rebuild nvidia-utils
3) this all has nothing to do with the module not being inserted. if you would report the error message, maybe someone could help you.

this is the error i get:
root@defiler $ modprobe nvidia
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.17-ARCH/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko): Invalid module format
ok, i'll rename the package.
