My favorite thing about Arch Linux is...

New Release != Must Get New CD

I've been pacman'ing through a number of release versions of Arch for some time now. So far without issues.

Am I right that I could not do this with other distros (excepting perhaps the source distros)?

Personally I was never a fan of having to go out and buy/download upgrade CDs from other distros to get from a 6.0 to 7.0. Just doing this every 6 months to a year drove me crazy!

Anyone else a big fan of the "install once, pacman forever" approach?

I agree that its nice how arch does it so cleanly. But bear in mind that debian did it first.

Just not as well, IMHO. ;-)

For me it's rolling releases (I like to have the latest features) and starting from a tiny base install. No extra cruft I don't need.

Absolutely!!!!! The rolling release is "one" of the major reasons I stick with arch.

I still have yet to figure out why every loves AUR personally I've only used it maybe 2-3 times to get packages that I couldn't figure out how to install xD. But I suppose, once I actually spend more time installing packages it'll get easier. The reaon I love arch is because it can be what ever you want it to be, and feel how ever yuo want it to feel. It comes with nothing more than a base system to get you up and running then everything else is up to you. You aren't forced to use KDE or GNOME, you can choose what ever DM you want to install. Sure, with a bit of hacking you can do this on other operating systems, but then again some are so integraded into KDE/Gnome it's almost impossible to switch to something that "you" want. Hmm... so I guess what I am trying to say is, the real reason I stick with arch is because it's so easy to make it... well mine, it's great to have a distro that you can have feel like home . Not to mention the rolling release system is a absolute favorite of mine. No more downloading CD's .

pacman + binaries!  I tried using debian after arch one time, and it was like getting kicked in the groin!  I also like the fact that it doesn't really have a default....anything.  I love the arch init scripts as well

Yes it is... It has SystemV initscripts, like 90% of the distros out there.

I love rc.conf

And I like the control that I have over my system, and the speed, and the package manager, and the state-of-the-art software, etc

I really like Arch. Very very much. Have I found my perfect distro? I think so, but time will tell ;-)

The fact that I haven't re-installed since the first install and there's been no big mind bending borks. Plus pacman, no big I'm-better-than-you-ego-monsters, aur and let's not forget our good friend abs

Have you ever heard of project sunrise?

And yes rolling releases are the best. So far a lot of distros use it, Gentoo, debian, frugalware, arch linux, etc...

AUR, rolling release, pacman, speed, simplicity.

The best:  a huge percent of the community uses WMs (more than half, i'd guess, going by the screenshot thread).

No more explaining over and over why my setup looks so weird
