Errrm, what? I was displaying what files *should* be there....
Ah, righto. My bad.
first i did the auto prepare(partition configuration and i do not get along...lol)
installed my packages(base system)
installed the kernel(2.4 to be exact)
edited a couple files(lilo.conf,rc.conf i believe)
installed lilo
and then rebooted....i might have missed a step but it was pretty straight forward.
Sounds like you were using an outdated version of the installer... The current one has you edit stuff before installing the kernel. Also, kernel24 no longer exists as of right now... Other than that nothing looks particularly unusual. As I said, try downloading the pacman package manually and installing it with 'pacman -U'.

Could it be an old version of the iso? In the early days (around 0.6 Widget) the mirrors were listed in /etc/pacman.conf, and there was no /etc/pacman.d/ directory.

Oogh, I hope not. Squiggy, what version of the install ISO did you use?

Weird, they seem up to date now... Better to use one of the Arch mirrors though.
