Some of the applications that i'm using (Gnome desktop) have very small icons in the toolbars. Similarly, some of the text fields when i'm trying to use Mono are stuck with very small font also. Screenshots below.
I tried adjusting my fonts and zoom in the application. Tried changing my display resolution. Tried changing my default font sizes in Gnome settings. All of these things would have an impact in other areas (fonts, frames, etc) but not on the specific toolbar icons or fonts that are stuck tiny. Sorry if this is a repeat. Tried to do a search here but couldn't think of a very concise phrase for this.
It's especially annoying (other than the font being unreadable in Mono) because i actually use my touchscreen often, so tiny icons aren't making that easy.
The laptop i'm using is Lenevo Yoga 900. Not sure if the answer will have anything to do with my specific display.

EDIT: Apologies, I need to read more carefully, I see that you have already tried gsettings. If you have indeed already tried everything in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HiDPI, it might actually be bugs with the applications themselves. I'm not very familiar with that sort of application development, but they could be making their own makeshift widgets instead of using the library ones that will scale correctly (for example). In this case, it might be worth contacting the application community directly.
