I have the same problem . After upgrading to the new drivers steam games won't start.

You don't have the same problem (low FPS vs not starting == not the same problem), I took the liberty of splitting this off into it's own thread - post terminal output and commands you are using to start a game.

Ok thanx ... First of all I installed nvidia etc and it was working perfectly
then after the update my system details
Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 4.0, 128 bits)

Yeah so an incorrect libgl is loaded, kernel and packages look fine at first glance, what does your xorg log look like? And maybe
printenv
loginctl show-session
lspci -k

Why do you have the nouveau driver installed, what desktop environment do you use, notably on what display server and if it's not wayland, please provide your xorg log.
