[Solved:] /proc/acpi/ibm/thermal does not contain correct temperature

Hi forum

I run Archlinux on a Thinkpad X201. That TP model only has only one thermometer. Temperature would usually be stated in the following format in /proc/acpi/ibm/thermal:

temperatures:	46 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Since yesterday, /proc/acpi/ibm/thermal only contains this:

temperatures:	-128 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

I’ve been using tlp and thinkfan for a long time, but just yesterday tried powertop, applying some of the suggested changes. I assume it is related? However, I do not know how to get the correct temperature. Why could the reading be off?

edit:
On the same day that the problem first occurred, I had replaced the battery. I thought this could not be related, and this is why I did not mention it in my post.
After removing the battery and booting without it, there was a “system information updated” message on boot (first seconds), and /proc/acpi/ibm/thermal was correct!

Then, rebooting once again with the battery connected, the problem is did not reoccur. Maybe it had to do with me playing around with tlp and powertop. Or it was related to the battery replacement (though I wouldn’t know why).

Anyway, the problem is gone, I’m marking it as solved.
